Holy Michael the archangel, prince of the heavenly host,
who stands always for the help of the people of God,
combated the infernal serpent,
cast him out of heaven and valiantly defended the Church of God,
so that the gates of hell cannot prevail against it:
we beg of you from the bottom of our hearts,
to assist us in this our dangerous combat,
which we, weak and imperfect creatures, have to wage with the same enemy,
at we may steadily resist and happily overcome him.
